The local pet store is getting out of the small mammal and bird business. I decided to get this guy as a pal for Beth, my other dove. I named him Bill.

I liked the way he's looking at the camera in the second picture. What's the total count of your animals now?

Lyle - Nah. Just clip the ends of the flight feathers and they can't get very far. Lot of folks that keep birds know that trick and I'm sure GMS does too.

GMS - She sure is eyballing him. :hehe She may have just found herself a new beau!

Oh, I didn't catch onto what Lyle was saying. Yes, just trim one wing will do it as long as you avoid blood feathers.
Let me see, Maria,
4 dogs, all are rescues
2 doves
1 parrot
1 rabbit
10 ferrets and about
25 rats.
There won't be anymore for a very long time, we never wanted that many. The big problem is that most people aren't prepared to take care of abused rats or ferrets. Everybody wants dogs or cats but rats have a undeserved bad reputation and some people gripe about the musky smell of ferrets.

gms9810: good for beth to have some company, but how you and your wife put up with two doves i will never understand - i can't stand having those birds too close to me, they're too much like park pigeons and park pigeons are like rats with wings - well known fact.

hehe, i wrote that and just realised how extremely silly that sounds to a guy who keeps company with twentyfive rats :). i think the rats in that expression refer to the stereotype, plague-spreading sewer living city rats - but i suppose that's no excuse....

Only wild rats carry plagues, and then it's not the rats, but the fleas on them. Doves are the gentlest bird there is. Flying rats..... I like that idea, I've always wanted a fruit bat.

gms9810: i can well believe that of the fleas, horrid little creatures - just like anything with six or eight legs (yes, even ladybugs, some of them bite and bite bad).
fruit bats are really cute! i've never heard of anyone who actually had one as a pet though - is that even possible?

   Wow! That is a LOT of animals. But it sounds like they are in a wonderful home, so that's good!
