Is there any hope to see this quite useful site cleaned up?

Because some folks here seem to be involved there so I could have fresh news

His call for help is for Drupal which few people know about. I can help, but mostly by shooting spam.

I do hope they get the registry site straightened out.

In the interim, several of us are working hard to improve http://gimpscripts.com and make it into a complementary alternative to the registry, with perhaps a little better file organization and free from comment spam. Comments are automatically filtered for spam and all others are moderated, unless the commentator has previously approved comments, then their new comments are posted without moderation.

Script authors can submit their scripts via a simple form and the submissions will be moderated for spam, and other QC checks, before they are posted. Script authors can also contact me, or any other member of the staff, if they wish to become gimpscript.com editors and add/update their own content. This might be a better paradigm than is currently used at the registry.

Yeah; spam's an issue at GIMPTalk too. Very sad. What's weird is that the Registry uses captchas and these get through the captchas to provide links to cr@p. Either it's because a person is doing this, or these bots are getting way more sophisticated then I would like. :)

i didn't intended to be rude, i believe the only persons from GC collaborating with the registry were me and Mahvin and and we could just help for the spam

That is the point ton fix is needed somebody that
1)known drupal
2) have all the permission required

i fear there are no other solutions, or a new competent collaborator show up and fix or the site remain..as now hardly usable

I don't think they are bots... I see spammers tactics on GimpForums and they are a bit too smart to be bots. Typically to appear as legit users for a while they make up posts using well-chosen extracts from other posts, and this "well-chosen" is a bit too well done to be machine-generated. So captchas don't help much. What can help is IP-range-banning, or slowing down the registration process (send confirmation mail with 10 minutes delay, enable user 10 minutes after reconfirmation on site) so that these folks get a better return on their investment elsewhere. The tough part is getting the balance right between the nuisance for the spammers and the nuisance for legit users.

What they need to do is get rid of the Captchas entirely and use the newer types of login or prepost widgets.
I have one that actually makes you build a Mr. Potato Head face. :lol
Try doing that as a bot.
And their are others that ask to add and do other equations.
The one we use here at GimpChat is phenomenal, and has busted spam 100 fold.

I know this isn't quite the place for this but not sure where else to put it. The Gimp Registry site is in bad shape, I have been trying for the last 3 hours (yea you heard me right 3 HOURS), to create an account, to no avail. I cant get help on the registry site, cause well you have to register to post a comment, so can't ask for help cause I can't register. I mean I put in my info, then type the letters and numbers in the captcha thingy, and it says its sending a confirmation email with further instructions, but the email never gets to my inbox, I even checked my spam folder to make sure it didn't get put in there, nothing. For 3 Hours, now its said I have requested to many times and now there's some kind of hold on it ..... AHHHHHHHH!! I GIVE UP!!! pulling my hair out .... but I digress, sorry to yell in your ears guys, but I'm about to blow a gasket trying to get this thing to work.

Why doesn't the registry.gimp.org admin switch to Wordpress?

I wish I knew, Its been 24 hours now and still no confirmation email to finish my registration process, and no way to let them know about it, cause to post anything on their site, even in the help section, you have to be registered first, which is the problem lol.

man that's just funny, tried to quote your last post and it wouldn't let me lol, said my post was too spamy and to remove offsite urls, I was like what offsite urls I hadn't written any lol, then I realized it was talking about the quoted part, lol, not even my words but wouldn't let me use the quote feature cause of the url, lmao.
