Yes, I agree on the pencil tips but otherwise, I like the realistic look of the pencils.

Personally, I don't think it's necessary to be 100% technically accurate with the shadowing on every element in the banner. I find that when I try to be that accurate, it ends up not looking as good. Moving the shadow on the small slogan text to match the Gimp Chat text is a must because the difference there is just way too obvious. However, I don't think we need to worry about the inconsistent shadowing on the other elements. I was just pointing out them out. :)

There are lots of Wilbers to choose from. http://chrisdesign.wordpress.com/2009/0 ... ollection/

The pencils aren't rendered too well. You can't see it with a light background but if you give it a drop shadow it will show. My last fiddle attempt made no sense at all shadow wise but I didn't fancy cleaning those pencil points up.
Thanks for that great Wilber link. Grabbed those in a hurry.

Fell in love with this one. Gotta make a sig with it. :-D

Those pencils, don't know where they came from but the white gradient does help with the lack of antialiasing around them. I color picked around them and it came out a light blue, then fuzzy select clicked the transparent area, Select > Grow 1, took it to color to alpha and used the light blue as the color. Did help.

Those pencils came from an old website style I picked up several years ago. They have been changed and improved a lot since then so going back to the originals is not really an option. The few white pixels in the tips aren't really noticeable in our current banner anyway. They can be brushed right out of there, if necessary.

I corrected the shadowing on the small slogan text and it looks much better. I also airbrushed a line around the tassel so it doesn't get lost in the yellow pencil. For some reason, that part of the tassel wasn't outlined but the rest of it was.

Refresh to see the changes I've put up. I think we might have a keeper! :bigthup

I like! Nice idea backing the tassel with airbrushing to make it more visible against the yellow pencil :clap

White line mysteriously crept in above the banner again. :hoh

Yes, I think it looks good.

We have so many cool banners, I'm thinking we need a banner rotator. :cu

I made two more, completely different ones last night.

Don't know if they still look decent the next day though. :rofl

I'll post them but I forgot the "where imagination... " text.

In fact both of them are not finished yet, but can't be working on them now. :(

I was just wondering how long the pencils would get for someone with a really big screen if you use the end bit as website sliver. :lol

Attempt at glossy banner. Obviously needs more images in there.

Also had another idea, a search cloud with GIMP terms. Something like this:

But with more text colors in the search cloud, to make it a bit more cheerful. :)

No, someone else did. There's a link to it in the first post. :)

that search cloud is so cool, especially the little details on some of the words, like smudge, blur, rotate.
