Hello guys..

I'm wondering.. I realy need to practice with GIMP and I want to but I can't since I don't have anything to do.

I was wondering if you might be able to give me a challenge or something and let me try what I can do...

:coolthup

Thanks in advance

Regards

Well, you could try your hand at creating an alternate Gimp Chat banner. You could make one with a specific holiday/seasonal theme or just be creative. I can't guarantee it will replace the current banner but I'm open to ideas. A seasonal or holiday banner would only be up temporarily.

Matter of fact, anyone could submit alternate or temporary banners for consideration.

There current banner is here: styles/GimpChat/imageset/sitelogo1.jpg

The banner would need to be approximately 930 x 200. Notice the banner sits on a background color of #EEF3F6 to blend in with the website's background color.

Just a thought...

OK, you asked for it. I challenge you to do each of Jolie's tutorials. Each one is clear and has very good basic information in it that you need to become more proficient in GIMP.

Just think, if you get stuck on one, help is at hand, too. How could you not come out a winner?

When you have finished a tutorial, post a result with the tutorial.

There, you have it! The gauntlet is down.

Ya ninja'd me, GnuTux. :pengy

Well, kinda anyway. We were posting at the same time and I had a warning that someone else had just posted.

I think Bloodwell has two great challenges now. OK, Bloodwell, it's up to you.

I'm open to all ideas, blood. The only requirement is that it be correct size and say "Gimp Chat", along with the slogan "Where imagination meets innovation".

I guess I would prefer some kind of Art or computer graphics theme, with a picture of Wilber on it. I chose colored pencils because I thought they were cool and I like lots of color.

Just be creative! :paint

I noticed that It's pretty hard to find a good background :( most of them aren't the right size and when being resized then get pixelated so..

Oh and does it have to blend in with the website?

or not?

Well, if the banner is a bordered rectangle, it could simply replace the current banner, but if it's not bordered (like the current floating banner), it would have to blend in with the website's background color. Notice how the light blue background color is added to current banner image just below the pencil points.

Of course, it could simply be a transparent backgound on a PNG, instead of a JPG, and you wouldn't need to worry about blending it.

At one point, certain browsers had trouble rendering transparent PNGs so that's why JPGs are often used. It's not much of an issue these days, as most modern browsers render transparent PNGs just fine..

After you are done, I think it would be a really good idea to do as O suggested. If you go thru Jolie's tuts, like one a day, you will learn so much about Gimp we will be asking YOU questions!

I'm out of inspiration now so any tips are welcome.. Problem is I have no idea how to let a picture realy look AWESOME!

Because everything I make looks the same and I have no idea how to do it otherwise

but I hope you still like the CGI stuff :jumpclap

I also kept those pencil colours in the text :bigthup (Gimp Chat)

You do have a typo in your text: inovation = innovation. Nice job though.

Cool thinking putting the pencil colors in the text. Nice! You keep on working, Bloodwell. You definitely have a flare for working in gimp.

Tips for text:

-Try a drop shadow.
-Try the layer effect script.

What language is your GIMP in?

It's a beautiful language. Go be ashamed of yourself. :nono

Although have to admit, what the Belgians make of it these day, I'm starting to have my doubts.
