...if that makes sense.

Original photo, taken at Garden of the Gods, southern Illinois:

Same with inset "painted":

Same with "seamless" inset:

Here it is beveled:

Framed:

Thanks for looking.

PART 2:

Did a few more. Another photo taken at Garden of the Gods.

Made the inset with rounded corners, and beveled. Inset color, over desaturated:

The opposite:

Seamless inset, with color over desaturated:

Drawing inset, over color:

The same with a different mode overlay:

"Light in the valley":

Thanks for looking.

PART 3:

Did these with an inner shadow. Pretty cool effect.

Original. Yep, Garden of the Gods:

I think it looks great but would look better in my opinion if the effect were reversed and the effect was on the border instead. :)

Pretty cool looking the way it is though.

I didn't save them, but I actually did do a few like that. I preferred this way better. I did some with black and white on the outer edge as well, just didn't save any of them.

nice effects, I think the first one might look interesting if the 'painting' inset had a small frame.

How did you convert the insert to a painting? Is there a filter you used?

Here ya go 2-ton. I never thought of adding a frame, but I was gonna bevel the inset. Here it is beveled:

G'MIC. I think it was an "Ink Wash", set to value mode.

Love the bevel, better than the frame! All it needs is an easel stand!

The bevelled affect looks real good, very different, very abstract. Nice work.

Stunning photo and love the idea of partially painted, I think the third one in on the first post is my favourite although do like the frame idea.

That seamless one is kind of cool. I have some other ideas as well I'm gonna give a go in the very near future. Remodeling the kitchen is taking a lot of my time.

For real. Old house, and lots of work. New floor joists, everything. Have been drywalling, ick.
