Not quite a stipple/hedcut, but I did this one earlier (just linking; it's for another forum that I frequent). :)

It's a good effect Lyle, don't know how to call it, much less how to do it :)
Well, at least I could do this (thanks to the script :hehe ) viewtopic.php?f=22&t=9726&p=126905&hilit=spiral#p126905

I did have that same script (or was it a plugin) K1te. Lost it when Ol' Betsy died on me; might have to get it again. lol

I actually used GIMP's Engrave and blended results from Amphisoft's Xylograph filter. :)

Yes Sally, a nice script following a nice David's tutorial.
Thus, you probably will support my request (better: my hope) to have a nice python guru adapting to gimp the python code of ZebraTrace...(see that topic)

Interesting effects; whilst a true stiple would not be the outcome I thought I would try out Ofnuts multi path effects with some stroking/rippling/blurring on an image of a local sporting hero of over 65 years ago.

Another try, vector this time with some post-production raster effects.

Bunch of patternlayers with increasing strokewidth, each thresholded to a different value with a layermask.
I guess the same could be done with a stipple dot pattern.

Experimentation with multiple newsprint runs, multiple displacement runs and some blending and tweaking.
Because of an addiction to redheads, I'm partial to the image in color.

Ripple, Half-tone shapes, mirror Ripple (to recover image back to regular), G'MIC's Pen, and a few other things for this result. :)

Its an old thread but I got interested in how also.

Image

1. create b&w image, white background, use smaller sizes such as 432 px @ 72 dpi
2. duplicate layer
3. top layer edge detect, gaussian
4. cut away white background, turn edges to black
5. base layer mode-index-3 colors-dithering
6. cut away middle grey
7. adjust/clean up upper layer
8. merge

Hi Paulsixe and welcome to Gimp Chat.

The images you've created are outstanding.
And thank you for the brief step-by-step guide.
Perhaps,
if you feel so inclined.
Would you provide us all,
a more comprehensive tutorial on how to created these images?
