It had to be a very nice wooden house, it's a pity it burnt down. Here my try on it, David. :)

Brightess-Contrast, a bit of saturation, wavelet sharpening.

Second option: duplicate, GEGL tools/C2G on bottom layer, then set top layer to "color" and add a bit of saturation.

Issabella & ofnuts,

Both pictures have brought out the detail - very effectively.

My try. complicated as usual!
Separate masks for the end & front walls adjusted to bring out the contrast, each one allowed me to change the brightness and saturation individually.
Increase in saturation for the whole image and wavelet sharpening.

david.

I enjoy your results. I can say that I am learning a lot lately about how and what apply according to each one. Nice! Here you have another two photos. :)

Issabella,

Two very beautiful photographs - I doubt that it is possible to improve them, so I decided to try some extreme modifications.
I have also scaled them, otherwise they would have taken a very long time to upload!

And the fourth version, which for some reason I couldn't upload in the previous reply.

Thank you so much David. Your versions on each one are absolutely beautiful. I love ocher tones. You did one of them just as it was autumn and the other as spring. :bump Any advice for me to learn? Well done to reduce size. :)

Issabella,

The colour changes for "autumn" & "spring" were just a result of playing with Colours, Components, Channel Mixer.

Here a challenge for you all. What are your creations on white snow in photographs?

Love that, Issabella. I figured it had to be something cold or would not last long. Your snow person must have one of those frozen latte drinks in the cup, not hot coffee!

Thank you Pat, try a transformation on the pic. You can apply some filter you like. I'm lately learning new methods to apply on photos and I like.
OMG; thanks for your contribution, too. The first one it is funny. :)

Issabella,

Now you are setting a very difficult challenge!!!!
The forest picture I tried two ways - one using the channel mixer to emphasise the colours - the other just using Hue & Saturation.
The snowman picture I have cheated and painted in some colour!!!
(I have scaled the pictures to 2000 pixels wide.)

I have been trying, without success, to find some royalty free photographs of faces we could use to try retouching. Unfortunately, the only ones I can find are either very small or have been professionally taken and heavily edited.

david.

Thanks David, interesting results. I did my tries too. On snowman picture, I applied colour using Light Leaks and hue-contraste. On the forest pic I applied a bronze gradient and layer mode. :)

David, I think we all aren't going to be lack of ideas. :) I'm experimenting and possibly taking any risk, but as newbie in this field, I'll post what I personally like. You all fell free to post what you like, too. :)

Issabella,

The idea I stole from you was to use coloured layers to tint the image!

I like your "many-effects". This time I have decided to try and be a bit more subtle in the colour.

I like seeing your creations and effects. I'm sure that ones give ideas to others and that is the important thing.
David, your nuance applied on it is very good to see. Subtle but very effective IMO.
Pat, I'm happy to see your contribution. You gave a touch fantasy to the pic.
