Don't know if this was taken with a camera or a phone camera.
My daughter's family lost this dog the morning after this photo was taken through snake bite. Understandably they are very upset but if it is at all possible I would love to give them a photo of Zac worthy of keeping.
I have tried and cannot do anything with it as is at the moment. Maybe someone else can?

That's ok Issabella. I should have said fatal snake bite.
Thanks for having a go at the photo. :)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I found another part photo of him 3 years prior. I have to go to bed now but if any one can fix this I know there is a filter in G'MIC where you can merge/blend photos together. Maybe this can be done here? If no one has done anything in 17 hours I'll have a look at doing it.
Thank you all for your tries. (Shame there is so much shadow.)
I think you were being too kind with the water. I should have mentioned it is a muddy river ;) :)
Losing a loved one hurts. I know. You want to hang on to what you got left. I hope my contribution helps in some way.
Thank you for all of your contributions.
Yes it does ek. My two youngest grandsons here only knew that dog in their little lives.
Hi Sallyanne, best I can do to bring back the dog's colour. Any more work on colour and the artifacts become too much.
Peace be upon him, and may his memory be a blessing to you.
When a photo doesn't have much resolution, I like to try a painting effect. FotoSketcher and GIMP.
I took a stab at enhancing him. I've attached the enhanced photo and the xcf with the layers if you want to work on it some more. Hugs to you and your family. Losing a pet, especially so suddenly, is rough.
You all did a really good job at an 'impossible ' and low res photo. I couldn't get it any better.
I have decided to put the few photos that I had together in a montage. I think everyone is happy with it. I posted it on facebook for them and wider family as well.
