As many of you know, creating a fake IR gives you hit/miss results no matter what editor you use but I concocted a cool way to create them by creating a simulation of a modded camera without color eliminating filter attached. Click here for a compressed (around 7MByte hence not hosting here) XCF file with detailed layer info since way too lazy to create a tut. Will add here that I used Wavelet Denoise (1000, 0.75; use this setting a lot) for the cleanup step. :)

Their are a few filters just announced on the registry with this effect. :)
It's pretty cool to use this effect with a color pop.
Like pink trees and things like that.

I might check the Registry out again (been a little while w.r.t. IR scripts). I still hoping that someone would come up with a cool way in G'MIC itself to do this. Not sure my approach is the right one either, but still, I believe G'MIC and do a good fake IR. :)

Sky Blue Difference

Toying with another idea that using skyblue (color picker in this case but I also use r-7f,g-ff,b-ff (skyblue) too, but for this result, the dark blue color using color picker gave me the result I liked best. Added a few additional effects such as Soft Glow filter as well. After creating the fill color layer (skyblue) I set the result to difference and also copy original layers above (3 total). Top layer I add alpha channel and add to selection option and cut 3 times then deselect. The layer below I set the saturation and the layer below that I set to hue. Did a few others (not this one) feed the above flow result into Red Paw Media's Beautifier filter (shellout) for some cool results too. Why I'm fascinated by fake IRs is anyone's guess. lol

Thanks to Tom, I'm in the mood again to render another one; no need to create a new topic imo. Anyway, I took this capture last fall (reduced the size; EXIF intact) and applied my flow to it for the result below. :)

That one looks spooky.

Just as an aside talking of IR. I know most camera manufacturers go to great lengths to make their cameras less sensitive to IR but they're still receptive to it - try "shining" an IR remote at your phone's camera while pushing buttons on the remote, you'll be able to see the IR! Don't know what long term effect this will have on the sensor array, so don't it with your Leica - was wondering tho if it would be possible to make an IR flashlight with a bunch of IR LEDs and illuminate a scene with it?

Yes, you definitely can see the IR remote on the display when you shine it, but not sure if you can make a camera light using a powerful IR light, but that would be cool if it work for taking indoor shots where flash is forbidden, but I suspect that the brighteness levels would be quite scewed then what would be expected; might make for some weird results though. Too bad I no longer care to do my hobby (electronics) since I lost it all a decade ago. lol

Yet another possible technique for faking IRs.

First open your target then use the following settings:

Run shellout and then Red Paw Media's Beautifier fitler with the following setting (which I call play with the sliders; lol):
