Tue Dec 06, 2011 12:39 pm

I rediscover this little jewel , free, more then free oOpen Sourve, easy to install, compact
(no registry entry may work as portable and/or be used from Gimp and ShellOut script)

No problems for Mac Windows or Linux version:
there is a Windows version and the java version is for all OS

It is a complete graphic editor , i was mostly attracted from some quite unique filters and effect

Worth exploring

I am Pixelitor's biggest fan. It has non-destructive filters, gradients and vector layers now

Pixelitor is the most non-destructive open source image editor. I LOVE IT!

Enable Experimental options if you want to use smart filters, editable gradients and vector layers

I am using a beta bulld post Pixelitor 4.30 that allows moving and resizing smart filters. You'd have to build Pixelitor yourself if you want to do that or wait for a 4.31 4.x release.

Pixelitor's beta now has a new flat theme. It would not have been possible if a contributor did not solve a bug with the opacity meter. The only way to access this version of Pixelitor is to build from source.

I can't stress enough how much I love Pixelitor. I wish more people used it here. It is one of the best gems in open source!

Pixelitor just got a new version release that has adjustment layers and smart objects in experimental options. I've been using them (reeditable filters) for over two years now but not many Gimp fans have gotten to test stuff like this.

From what I can make out at first reading, it can't do anything that Krita can't do and I already have Krita for painting. I imagine it's a lot lighter than Krita if you don't need good painting tools though. Also, Krita has G'mic which I really can't do without. Still, it looks like a great product.

Hi Erisian, You can't compare it to Krita, they are not playing the same game. ;)

Pixelitor is not for painting (at least not like Krita, not at all), it's more like GIMP using its filters, :bigthup
Pixelitor has a bunch of filters from Artistic, Light, Noise, Rendering, and so on and on...
A lot of those filters are, IMHO, more powerful than the ones in GIMP (more options and/with different options) which can surprise you when you push the cursors/sliders.

Something to be mentioned about Pixelitor: There is a "Randomize Settings" button on each and every single filter, which I found, is a very smart way to teach beginners with Pixelitor, click that button and something new comes to screen (alive like GEGL in GIMP, no need to close or apply the filter), look what changed with the default settings and boom in 2 or 3 test you understand all the filter's settings

For example:

Another example
first with default settings to make a wood texture (GIMP does not have this filter :hehe )

Then I clicked "Randomize Settings" and just put back the default gradient = a different wood texture ;)

GIMP has more powerful tools, more functionalities like the Path dialogs, the Channel dialog, but filter wise, Pixelitor can surprise ;)

Pixelitor can now call GMIC filters. Only a handful have GUIs though but it allows GMIC syntax input for anything.

You have to compile the latest Pixelitor, check this and restart Pixelitor for it to work.
