I'm curious to know if anyone is still using MS Paint in 2021. It's hidden on Windows, so you have to search for it. I was just doing a random search on my laptop and noticed it was still in existence. MS Paint was the first program I used before getting into Arcsoft PhotoStudio (discontinued by Arcsoft), GIMP, Paint.net, Paint 3D, Krita, Inkscape, and Apop.

It looks like this:

Rumours MS were planning to axe Paint in Win 11. But it had fans in cyberspace and will now have a minor update with a new UI (seems very minor) and a dark theme.

It's still a good program to use, if you only need the basics.

The "fans"(*) are most likely beancounters in companies that uses it as an excuse to not provide usable image editors to their employees.

(*) At leas those that Microsoft listened to...

I thought the program was axed when Windows 10 came along and honestly, I think it should have been. There are other programs out there that are good starter programs, like GIMP.

By the same token the charcoals used in the Lascaux cave would be advanced technology.

The mere fact that doing it with MS Paint is part of the merit of this art is proof that MS Paint is basic.

I use it to paste from clipboard, crop and export. That's pretty much it. I used to love its past-self, which I have to call Classic Ms Paint now, for art, but this version feels more difficult and often makes me angry. I just use jspaint in my browser for a classic experience. I discovered grafx2 not too long ago and tried an emulated version of deluxe paint 5 (for pixel art/retro art purposes). These are all great programs and usable. It's nice to rediscover and learn about tools of old times and see how people used them to create stunning graphics. I feel like today's artists are spoiled by automation tools and have high standards now, they wouldn't touch these things that requires more manual input.
