I'm not too worried about malware. There are more efficient ways to distribute that. But that could be a covert Microsoft operation, for instance. Microsoft is losing its lock-in battle. MSN is replaced by Facebook, OpenOffice/LibreOffice is an alternative to MS-Office (that's what I use at work and no-one noticed...), IE is no longer the leading browser (now in 3rd place). What application can induce people to stay with Windows?

In my case, absolutely nothing. if it wasn't for the applications I paid for I wouldn't have anything Microsoft on any of my machines. IE has always been a sad joke, office has always been bloated and way overpriced.... why am i explaining this? Everyone here knows all of it. Microsoft's days are numbered and it knows it.

Did you notice the gimp vine brush comes with it?
So it's a GPL licence? :)

Portable Application?

Had a look at this when jolie pointed it out. Running in a winxp virtual machine and it was not wonderful, however it looked as if it might be portable.
It seems to be more or less portable, copied the installation folder into my linux wine and it runs from there. Again so jerky as to be not viable but it does run.

Better test in a quad core athlon with plenty memory running winxp sp3. Runs fine. First start using an uninstaller as a check. It adds some folders to Docs & settings for settings and autosave, a couple of 'lastused' reg entries but that was all. A lot better than most. Looks fairly safe to use.

HAH! - you are right nice catch! :)
I emailed him about possibly releasing the source. Here is his answer -

Hi Rod,
Thanks for your e-mail. I'm happy to learn that you like Chasys Draw IES, I hope you find it useful. I currently have no plans for releasing the source code; for now it's closed-source freeware and intentionally so. This might change in the future, but such a change might occur in either direction.

Regards,
Chacha.

So i suppose if he releases it as commercial software he probably will have to wrestle with the person who created Gimps animated vine brush. :P

I have no idea who created the brushes but i figured i would look into other resources in the program to see what else may be copied.
Take a look at wood1 and marble1 - if these came with Gimps install they are both also in the Chasey program resources files. :) - hrmmmmmmmmm

Could be that the resources he used from GIMP were originally public domain. If I use a a bunch of public domain images or bought images that are licence free to make patterns and brushes, and put them in GIMP, and then distribute GIMP, I need to put the a GPL licence on the whole thing. But that doesn't mean that the images used for the patterns and brushes all of a sudden can't be used by anyone else for any other purpose.

Does that include selling them along side his own though?
That is if it goes back to commercial which seems to be what his answer is hinting towards.
(it could go either direction)

Post subject:  Re: Anyone ever heard of Chasys Draw IES?

well actually that are not sold, because are also included in the free program.
And anyway many CC images allow commercial reuse, and are tons of copyright free brush and pattern available

and about pattern i found insane speak of copyright for pattern as grass. sand, leaves, concrete,...obviously in similar case the Copyright should be from Mother Nature, i can't take a photo of a cabbage and pretend to be the owner of all the cabbage's patterns

Obviously those are extermes, on the other opposite may be elaborate handmade brushs

...but for sure if somebody create a soft round brush that can't prevent other to create soft round brushes even if they will look identical.

I mean the program seems quite good , for sure is not a copy of something else . and if may be a commercial version for sure the free version is not crippled....apparently rocks

No idea of the time and the work neeeded by a single developer for a similar project but for sure is a lot and is a effort going on from several years, i may well understand he doesn't want exclude chances of future rewards

So sure i will prefer OS but till is free i consider already a gift, and as for gifts i will avoid to be too suspicious

You will be amazed at how many people claim to own the same image of almost anything on the internet, whether it be a pattern, vector, picture of an item. It's hilarious and irritating at the same time.

You can do anything with a public domain image as far as I know. Because it has no licence, so no restrictions.

Doubt if GIMP uses resources with a CC licence. It always has at least a attribution restriction. Have you ever seen a document that comes with GIMP that attributes the owners of the images of the patterns?
Don't know though, just speculating.

I am resending this as GC didn't let me a moment ago:

I scanned the program with Kasperski and it came up fine. When I run the program directly, it runs fine. However when I run it from Shellout, I get this error message. Important note: I am not running anything in Compatibility mode and I don't know where this message is coming from!

The point is what program (antivirus or what ) pops that warning
and if is the warning has any ground and if not how disable it, at least for that case.

do it again .
and, without close the window of the warning, call the Process Manager, and check the list of the process opened to see from there the warning come

If you have http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/ installed you can scan all process (including used dll ) going on ,
or more simply from its Main Menu windows, open a Process Manager

I had the thing crash my computer, when I tried to do a screen recording with it, by turning up number of Screenshots it takes, had it at 900 with 15 per second, it was fine taking them, then it tried to import them and it actually froze and crashed my computer, it told me Unable to Log in, then I just shut down and booted back up and was fine....

Weird message. Disable it in all caps?

I've googled "You've enabled Program Compatibility, which is neither neccesary nor safe. DISABLE IT." No matches.

I'd do a search on your computer for that line inside a file.

Since I only have Chasys in my sandbox, I searched through every single dll file in the sandbox by opening it with notepad2. This line is not in any of them.

I'm going to try the process manager idea. Also I will try searching for the error message.

Post subject:  Re: Anyone ever heard of Chasys Draw IES?

Artist.exe is generating the error message. Artist.exe is part of ChaSys Draw.
