I think this one is the best in its class of
software simulating real oil, watecolor, acrylic, pastel paints.

Amazing stuff. Can't stop playing with it.
It's not open source free software but I don't think
Krita or MyPaint can simulate THIS well.

ArtRage is the best at simulating real media but as with most digital painting apps, I find it difficult to paint accurately with it. Its rotating brush is extremely annoying and to be honest, I've never understood why anybody wants to simulate real media rather than take advantage of everything digital has to offer. When I paint with any medium, I'm not trying to make it look like any medium - I'm just trying to paint a good picture. Of course it will look like a particular medium - the medium that it is. Having said all that, if you are enjoying it, carry on and have fun!

I guess it's a matter of cost. Real media supplies are very expensive these days.
OTOH, you can run ArtRage on mobile devices like iPad or iphone, which means you can paint
just about anywhere, not only in your studio.

I find brushes very responsive and easy to control especially if you're using graphic tablet's stylus.
Hm-m....the only rotating tool in ArtRage 4 is the palette knife but its moves are quite predictable, Eris.
Maybe you're talking about ArtRage 3 Studio? No?

Quite possibly. I had it when bought my Wacom bamboo a few years ago now. Maybe it's worth me trying again with 4.

Thanks akky - all the credits to the program developers.
Now I'm getting really good at it (setting customized shortcuts is helping too)
Traced a few photographs turning them into the oil paintings, not bad for a starter.
Will share someday
