Its a 4 core. Supposed to max at 2.8 GHz. ..never seems to get there ;)

I was trying your filter out yesterday in my Gimp 2.9.5 appimage. Some good symmetry effects

edit: this using Gimp 2.9.5 about 2200x2200 pix rendered to same size and it did take about 30 seconds.

Hi Rod,

3 minutes ? That is quite a lot, what was the resolution of your image ?
All the tests I've done have been generated in less than 10 secondes, even for a 3200x2048 image.

Default size output of 1200x1200.

I do have a pretty slow machine though soooo.... no biggy. Happy to just have this filter in G'MIC. Thanks again! :bigthup :)

heckflosse at the PIXLS thread mentioned that it may be how AMDs handle L1 cache that's causing the hiccup. If so, it may leak into VMs. Regardless, I might give it a whirl soon enough. I usually don't tax my VMs and have a minimal type of environment setup for them. Regardless, I'll try to install GIMP and G'MIC on it soon if I can figure out how to install GIMP-GMIC in my VM. lol

:)

I've just got an e-mail from samj, who tried the filter with its own compiled version of the plug-in, and apparently this is going really faster with her own version !
Maybe some bad compilation flags used in my case, I don't know.
That's interesting anyway, maybe this can be fixed quite easily.

OK; took me a bit to figure out Ubuntu. Man; first GIMP launches like near instantaneously. As for G'MIC (after I figured out the hidden directory structure; lol), is like lightening faster. Took around 5 seconds to run (preview fast too). Yup; there's a problem with the Windows build. Not sure what the solution to it will be though. Going to duplicate this note at PIXLS. :)

You just ninja'd me, David. lol :ninja

May look at samj's compile soon. Have to run out for a bit though. :)

So, Lyle, I'm happy to say there are new pre-release binaries/installers available for testing on the G'MIC web site : http://gmic.eu/files/prerelease/ (dated from today).
These new Windows binaries/installers have been compiled with g++, version 6.2.0, so a quite recent one, and apparently this makes a huge difference
Particularly, the filter Deformations / Conformal maps now takes only a few seconds to run, in my VM Windows.

I'd be really interested by your tests with those new binaries.

Also, I'd like to thank SamJ (Sylvie Alexandre) for providing me with this new compiling environment !

And to be sure you are running the very latest version, check out the ENSICAEN logo, it has been changed this morning.
Also @lyle, please note that there are a bunch of new DLLs that come along with the new binaries, so be sure you discard the old ones !

Below's what I just posted at Pixls; just have to say a fantastic build; fast is an understatement. :)

Wow; preview's near instantaneous now (before I had to disable it since it all but would not complete) and I did a 1200px by 1200px with the custom formula and it did so in around 7 seconds. This build's a keeper, David. Going to duplicate this message at GIMPChat. Thank you David and samj.

This Ruby road using this pattern (and tiled to size) took 17s only near 3 year old PC. Again, the preview was near instantaneous (and quite accurate). :)

That Dipole mapping in picture doesn't have a setting. I tried putting it in as formula but got a different result. Pity I flunked Algebra.Image

Not only speed performance for this filter improved (windows), it is a general improvement in speed for G'MIC (windows). So for windows users the new build from Samj and David is a must. I'm flabbergasted.

Copy-pasting the dipole formula in the custom formula field works for me, it gives exactly the same result :

Thanks Ronounours, I hadn't seen that I had to change mapping to "custom mapping" and then enter formula.Image.

selected a couple areas in a picture and it only mapped them

Also found that custom map changed when clicking update for presets

Thanks Rod. I did another using the pink flowers but it was too big to put here. So I uploaded iot to flickr

Here is one I did tonight with my puffball. I also ran array mirror on it

Tried another one using fire
Image Don't know where the error in the image is because it is showing in Flickr
After running conformal maps I ran array - mirror, rain drops, and textured glass. You may only see the smaller deformations if you enlarge it.
This is only half the size, I cannot 'open' the original. https://www.flickr.com/photos/115367823 ... 0/sizes/k/
