Admittedly I only tried a couple of times in the past two years but many times after downloading a second version and it would not 'see' my java (which was the latest too).
Here is one of the first things I have done today. I called it a 'earth heart' because of the colours.

Thanks Lyle.
Wish I could make them bigger but I only have a small laptop. Was told when downloading this version that you really needed 64 bit to render proper sizes too.
Did this one before as well - looks a little like a flower in the middle

I did this with it

TMA - JWF uses JRE

Version 3 was released end of last year and is excellent. Well worth a try if anyone interested in this sort of pattern.

How did you do it, Sallyanne. I downloaded but it wont run because Linux complains it's not executable and I can't fix it myself because it's read only in the properties. I may give up because I don't want to signup to yet another forum to get help.

It is a Java application, and runs from your home folder. Not even really necessary to make it executable, except for maybe the starter script for a .desktop file.

Not too sure that Sallyanne uses linux so:

It goes something like this:

Before starting you need the java runtime installed. That should be in your distro repository. In ubuntu look for something like: http://imgur.com/tuT0Evv

Then download and unpack the jwildfire zip into its own folder, somewhere in your home partition (1)

Start it up using the standard java syntax
java -jar j-wildfire-launcher.jar

in a terminal or run the provided bash file (2)

Use the Add Java runtime button and browse for the location (3) something like shown. It will be there somewhere. Only need to do that once or again if the java packages get updated.

Then it is click on the start button to get the JWildFire dialog. Sometimes a little delay before it starts, looks like this. http://imgur.com/6EyfVyT

I have done all that but the sh file is treated as a text file and the launcher comes up with an error saying it's not executable and I should be careful.
