The recent post on Gimp and the contact sheet reminded me of the old Xnview which had that function the newer XnViewMP has options for joining images but not very flexible in use. Another way of creating/printing a contact sheet or collection of images.

XnViewMP is available for all platforms
http://www.xnview.com/en/ and
http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?f=82&t=34581

You can print selected images like this

Plenty options available for the caption, all sorts of data as well as image name.

Want to save and maybe finish off in Gimp then export to some other format.
Print it to a PDF file.
Open in Gimp and remember to set the pixels-per-inch (ppi) to more than the default 100 ppi if required.

Thanks Rich, but it seems I am "damned" with contact sheets procedures.
Installed XnViewMP, followed the indication which says:
- open XnViewMP
- select the images you want to put in a contact sheet
- go to Create/Contact Sheet
and here I stop, I do not have the entry Contact Sheet under Create, and any other entry does not display the contact sheet parameters panel

attached a screenshot

Going to the support page there are posts concerning the same problem (Contact Sheet missing), with answers like "Will be in the next release".
Hence, how can you show it now?

The contact sheet from the old XnView is a miss. For the new version use the File -> Print menu

There is a drop down for format, then just a matter of wading through all the other options.

As before, either print to paper or print-to-pdf. AFAIK, no option to export to a graphics format.
No PDF printer installed? For linux there is CUPS-PDF, several for Windows, I think Win10 comes with a MS one.
