I wasn't sure where to post this, Gimp Art, Gimp Animations or here in Other Graphics Applications. I started playing with the old Sculpture generator outlined here viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1065&start=0.

I created some sculptures and saved multiple images with slight adjustments to "Turn around axis" setting. I then used Gimp to animate them.

These animations are awesome, Photomaster.
I love the perpetual movement, especially in the exploding wave 3.

These are spectacular and you used gimp so why not in gimp art!
Pity I am not into making animations. I am guessing a few will try to emulate them ;)

I just downloaded this. Interesting little program. Since it's an old program, it works very well in Linux under wine. I played around just a little bit...

Those are awesome!

I decided to try G'MIC on GenAniExp5.gif, because setting input layer to 'All' applies the effect to all the layers. First I ran G'MICs '3d blocks' filter and then the 'boost chromacity' filter. I got some very interesting results.

The non-constant shapes are so trippy because my brain keeps trying to figure out what shape it is (they are) but then terribly loses all kinds of moving reference.

Thanks PhotoMaster for starting another interesting thread. There are some nice animations here that would look good as a profile avatar.
I decided to investigate some free 3D sculpture apps.
I found 'Dilay' which has a Windows version from here: https://github.com/abau/dilay
It installs easily on Win10 but for me sculpting a blank sphere was pretty frustrating. It includes a 'camera' so can be used for animation but I couldn't import from any common graphic formats.

Sculptris by Pixologic is free if you call giving away your email address 'free'. There is a Windows and Mac version and it exports in the .obj format.
It imports PNGs as well.
http://pixologic.com/sculptris/

Sculptris could be used to make input files for Gimp. When looking at importing obj files into Gimp I found trandoductin's obj plugin'
https://trandoductin.deviantart.com/art/Ultra-fast-version-of-GIMP-obj-plugin-460707096
trandoductin knows a lot more about these things than he lets on :otb

Wow this program is a gem! Never heard of it thanks for re-introduction PhotoMaster
Used magenta background, took print screens every 5 degree steps (seems to be the smallest move possible) for a smooth full cycle and pasted each as new layer.
Then I ran FencePost's 'color to alpha all layers' for fast background removal, and changed timings bit.

Nice looking results guys :bigthup

This one was entirely too large to put on GC so I did it through my Flickr account.

The last one is great PhotoMaster :clap
Would it be possible to share the settings you had on that?

Found some models with settings and .stl files but I can't test em atm.

Thank You Nidhogg,
Here are my settings:
(Face 1 was green and Rim 1 was purple)
(Adjusting 'Turn Around Axis' gave me the frames for the animation)
