Definitely cool stuff Kevin, but, I have a few questions. First, where's Captain Kirk and also where's the location of VGER. lol

Well Captain Kirk was recently spotted presenting Have I got News for you and VGER - 1 & 2 are currently a long way from home. ;)

For a process that's basically geometry, it can lead to a surprisingly impressionistic outcome:

Which is this

Sample Radius: 10
Object: cylinder
Packing: tight
Modifier: xy-scale::brightness
Multiplier: 5

I've tried my best to fix the crash when there are lots of samples, but I can't guarantee it wont happen again - it seems that the sample data is being corrupted, just try running it again.

I've changed where it registers in the menu- now my standard "contributed" location. I've also made the "draw samples" option draw hexagons, squares and rotated squares.
Example of purely in-GIMP layer:

Unless anyone has any more requirements/suggestions, I'll leave it at this. (You know I'm going to think of something else in the next 5 minutes ;) )

Kevin

does this script only work with gimp 2.8?

I'm getting "crash" messages

That's where I'm running it Cecilia; there is an error consol screen that pops up saying it's finished but it hasn't crashed on me since I updated the latest. Though it took a while, I just did an ove 12,000 object file (just a test; not showing) and it worked quite well. :)

I've not tried it on 2.8, I've only run it in 2.6 but I don't know of any reason it wouldn't work for 2.8.

What are the crash messages you're getting?

What the hey; still enjoying your Script-fu Kevin. Did the marble and gloss in GIMP (with help from G'MIC) since I still don't know 3d all that well. :)

I believe I know your issue Cecilia. What you need to do first is, where you want the file to be created, you need to right click and create a new text file but save it as filename.pov (where filename is the name that you want your file to be). I usually do this at the desktop. Then, when you run the Script-fu, you browse to where this file is and click it (use the Script-fu interface to do this). Then run it. If you don't do this, the Script-fu will run, but no file gets saved (well it does get saved, but the file will be named (null) and will be located at your main user directory). :)
