Funny thing is Gimp-1.2 does open them but doesn't support opaque.
I wonder if the plugin in Gimp-1.2 would work in Gimp-2.8? :)

GimpPortable 2.6.12 opens them.

I was able to track down the source c file for WMF.exe and i will try and compile it for Gimp-2.8.

Lyle, you are using the Gimp-2.8 official release aren't you?
I am using Parthas build.
Are you dragging and dropping to Gimp or File>Open> select wmf?

WMF is pretty much a vector type file so it stands to reason it would open like a SVG file.
But when i open the open file dialog i see that Gimp doesn't even recognize the extension.
It isn't in the drop down list either. Do you have it in the drop down?

Yes; drag and drop. I am also using the official build so maybe the wmf plugin somehow didn't get compiled in Partha's build. :)

Maybe a better solution Rod. Since the resulting wmf file is a vector, you can import it into Inkscape then save it as a SVG file. Just did that (not showing) and it worked like a champ. Always more then one way to skin a cat. :)

edit:

What the hey; went ahead and attaching the result svgz (compressed) file. :)

edit:

If you already downloaded the compressed file, go again and do so again. I added the cfg file to it. :)

Thanks Lyle. You and Sam were correct. I downloaded and installed the Gimp-2.8 official version and robbed the 2 wmf dll files and the binary.
This didn't work either. :) ... I don't understand why, unless the gimp dll is different?
The import window opens with a height and width auto set to 1 pixel, and the x and y are -2. Weird!

So i guess i will just use Gimp-2.6.12 Portable to open them until Partha adds the plugin.
Thanks for your help folks. :bigthup

I thought I would try getting a wmf into Gimp (2.8, Vista 32). I had no problem with either File open or drag and drop. I got the usual Render Windows Metafile dialog. One thing I did notice; one of my renders from Guilloche was only 37x21. After opening in Gimp I was able to scale up with no noticeable degradation. This worked on a drag and drop, before saving.

Just out of curiosity.
Can be open or not?
As in 2.6 so - I copied all the *wmf to 2.8.
And it works (but only as in 2.6 for small files and read-only).
Wrote Lylejk-wmf - is good for Inkscape - wise words !
To try out (for experimenters) in Gimp 2.8.1 Partha win32bit files attached (of 2.6)

I will try your files MareroQ.
I did this once already and although it did open the render wmf dialog it won't open the file into Gimps image window.
