I just recently installed Open Office for Fedora 17
http://www.if-not-true-then-false.com/2 ... -hat-rhel/

Because i heard their 3D engine rendered quite nicely almost like Xara or Aurora but in a open source program.

I had no idea that this was available through Open Office Draw program!
The engine is quite fast also. :bigthup

I was able to get Xara MX 2013 to run through Wine but selecting fonts crashes the program.
So i needed an alternative for nice 3D text.

I am pretty impressed. :)

I have Libre Office which was Open Office and have Draw. Until today, I've never been in it. I copied the image to the clipboard and opened it in Gimp. Pretty nice for just a few minutes work. With some time spent, I'm sure it could get better.

Draw handles vector and raster quite nicely.

I looked everywhere on-line for a fast 3D text renderer for Linux. All i found was this and of course Blender. It's much easier to create 3D text in Draw than it is in Blender though. :) Not to mention as Odin said it works well for raster and vector design.

O if i would have known LibreOffice had 3D capability i wouldn't have removed it :lol Oh well live and learn.

Well I had Open Office until I updated Fedora and now all I could get was Libre Office which is just Open Office with a different name. Everything is the very same so it really doesn't matter which one you use. I'm going to have to play in draw more so I can make some good looking text. :hehe

I know there was talk of adding flash (swf) support in Impress. I haven't played it with it lately so I'm not sure sure how much progress they've made. Flash (or better yet, HTML5) presentations would be a nice export option in Impress, making it a potentially good tool for creating web based tutorials, guides and lots of other cool stuff too.

Well you can make the same kinds of text in Impress that you can in Draw and you have a choice of image formats to export them to including Flash.

Here is an image of the export options in Impress. Click the image to enlarge it.

This is some 3D text I made in Impress and exported as a png image. I think if I explored I could figure out how to make the bg transparent and also, how to crop the image. I cropped it in gimp.

Sweet, i will have to check out Impress also. :)
You can get some real cool looking results messing around with line styles also.
Pretty nifty.

I did a test in LibreDraw. Made a two layer image, one layer fancy text and a round shape behind. Exported in 4 formats to test Gimp importing support.

LibreDraw-001.eps, (616,098), no layers, no paths, poor quality, pixelated, bg
LibreDraw-001.odg, (32,206), unsupported
LibreDraw-001.ras, (468,284), no layers, no paths, very good quality, smooth, bg
LibreDraw-001.svg, (126,318), no layers, all paths, excellent quality, crisp, transparent bg

No question, SVG rules.
