another paisley tutorial - just what you all were waiting for!
i tried to find a way of making my bohemian blob
paisleys that didn't involve iwarp, since it's hard to give exact instructions for the iwarp filter and i know many people don't like it. here's one thing i came up with while i was experimenting - it will involve a little work in the last step, but otherwise it should be pretty simple to do. i call it "the slightly psychedelic paisley
machine" because the colour and general look of the
paisleys are a bit psychedelic and because it's a little like mass producing, you get four paisley units from one image.
step 1: open new image, 600X600 pxl.
step 2: get the gradient tool, set it to radial. draw gradient from centre of image. i used skyline gradient for this, but it doesn't really matter, the colours will change in the next step anyway.
step 3: open g'mic - artistic - warhol and play with the colour settings til you get something you like. click ok.
step 4: go to filters - distort - whirl and pinch. i use these settings (my gimp copy speaks swedish, but i think you can manage):

sometimes you have to pull the pinching amount up or down a little to get the right shape, just do as you please with that!
step 5: the warhol filter is a bit messy, so i usually try to tidy up the edges afterwards, smoothing and antialiasing.
step 6: now you will have something looking like this picture:

maybe you like this pattern as it is and want to keep it, otherwise just use your favie cutting technique to extract your four paisley units - and you're done
!
