OK, You know I gotta ask how you did that one. That's sweet!

I duplicated my band layer and filled the dup with a gold gradient, added the text -flip the text vertically- merge
hid one of the layers and ran the map object on the visible/selected layer, then hid the other one and ran it on that layer
then used the eraser on the text band so the other layer would show through
edit: the text needs to be off to the left (was just headed out the door when i saw your post, so i wrote this in a hurry)

Ha, yesterday tried The Lord of the Rings and used the same pattern and inscription I'd found on the net. Good thing I didn't post it here, it wasn't anywhere as good as yours, alc!

K1TesseraEna - the ring was created pretty much the same way as alc described expect I used the logo to alpha glowing hot script and some other tweaks that I can't recall to get the glow.

i was for two wedding rings, engraved with names on the inside and the rings were connected
