It's been a few months since I've added any tutorials to my blog. As promised, I have the link for the tutorial here:

https://www.mahvin.com/2011/02/gimp-tut ... cture.html

Enjoy!

Thanks for the advertisement :). If you need something more complicated (or cleaner) than what you can draw in the Curves dialog, I have a script to convert a profile/section into the matching black to white values for a bump map. For instance, you go from this:

to this:

Now would be a good time as any to add that new script into the mix. If I can play with it a little bit I might be able to incorporate it into the tutorial. Every little bit of explaining helps. :)

Thanks for providing them, too.

That is very nice Lianam.
Mahvin that is a very well written tutorial. I can't wait to try it. Just what I was looking for as to how you made it look beveled and 3 dimensional.... Thank you for taking the time.....

I posted the tutorial on my blog since I hadn't added anything new to it in a few months. But just to recap:

There are 3 layers:

1. the image
2. the small rectangle selection with b/w gradient and curves applied - make sure to go to Layers - Autocrop Layer to confine that small rectangle selection to its small size - otherwise wrapmap will grab the entire layer and lay out a lot of black region.
3. blank transparent layer - Select All, Select Border 1px (what this does is inverts wrapmap's selection process and forces it to follow the inside selection instead of the outside and results in a squared wrap. Otherwise your wrap would be rounded with curves. If you want rounded wrap, you could just run it after Select All and not create a 1px border. Then run wrapmap again.

You run the wrapmap plug-in on layer 3, the blank transparent one, this is done solely to allow you to treat your frame with shadows, change it's color, add textures. If we ran it on the image layer, every treatment you perform on the frame would have to be selected at all times to prevent changes being made to the original image you're framing.

Rod, I posted a link to the plug-in on the first post and yes this is offered as a link on the Registry, but the actual plug-in isn't loaded there.

I used a green glitter pattern to fill my frame and Neon Alien for the image.

Thanks, mahv. Was going to sneak this image up there under the neon one but you ninja'd me. :lol

That neon one belongs in a basement party room with a black light on it.

Playing with an old photo. 1941 Chrysler.
Original image here.

Great little tutorial there. I created my own mat (without any scripts) and used your tutorial for my frame. The photo is mine, as always.

I need to know if that squirrel fell out of the tree after stuffing him/herself with food? :lol
It looks so relaxed in that image PM.

Great shot!

Greg, that's a superb pic of that squirrel!!! Nice frame and mat job too.

I liked the car much better after running the color burn preset on it, decided to frame it. Had a really hard time making the blue of the frame blend well with the blue of the car and it's really not quite "there" with that blue. I had a lot of fun with this image and the preset and the frame, anyway.

Hate that tree growing out of the top of the car. Did a little lighten/brighten on it but it's not improved very much.

O, you can always create a new layer and color pick the blue from the car layer, and on the new layer with frame selection bucket fill the color, then use color mode.

I did try that but didn't like the results with the layer modes.
