This is my first tutorial so if I did something wrong then please tell me!

In this post I will learn you how to create a border for your text (Downloads in the spoilers below!).

Method 1 (my version):

Step 1:

Open/create the picture you want the text on.
Image

Step 2:

Create some text by selecting the text tool, clicking somewhere on the background, and then typing something.
Image

Step 3:

Right click the text layer and click "Alpha to Selection"
Image

Step 4:

Create a new layer and make sure it is Transparent and selected, then go to Select » Grow and put in the size of the border in pixels.
Image

Step 5:

Select the bucket tool and select the color and opacity, then click on the text.
Image

Step 6:

Move the text border layer down by one. Now your text should have a border around it.

Broken.

Method 2 (thank you orfnuts!):

Step 1:

Open/create the picture you want the text on.
Image

Step 2:

Create some text by selecting the text tool, clicking somewhere on the background, and then typing something.
Image

Step 3:

Go to right-click on the text layer and click Text to Path, and add a transparent layer and put it below the text layer.
Image

Step 4:

Go to Edit » Stroke path and then choose the settings and size of the border. (The size you use should be 2× bigger than the actual size, and the X and Y should match!)

Now you should have text with a border around it!

That was all for this tutorial, if you liked my tutorial then be sure to share it on Facebook, Twitter, etc. You should also check out my other tutorial: How to: Tron-like text

Will this method you are constrained to round corners. A cleaner method:
- Layer>Text to path
- Add layer below
- Edit>Stroke path (width: 2x the border you want to add)

Three line styles:

That's what the 'Line style" is for...

(I admit a poor choice of font in the initial example above, because the font had both sharp and round corners. Replaced with a ore regular font).
