@Dinasset - Thanks for the compliments; I thought at first you had picked up an error on my part in the tut!! Typically I do apply a gradient of some shape to every object foreground or background; in this case I just mentioned it as a 'tip'. Yes the fractal works without it but as you say the gradient blend gives it more substance. Often I also overlay the line art original or even in this tut example the wine bottle images themselves.

no errors in your tut, OMG; I said that because I noticed too many bottles around coming out after your tutorial lacking of natural light/shadow evidence...
you know I am an old man sometimes too..perfectionist! hehehe....

@Dinasset - I have been playing with my tut this morning and I believe you are right - and I bow to your far greater knowledge and experience!! I blended the bottles and overlayed them with the original bottle image (not the outline) in grain merge at level 65 opacity to give them more bottle 'oomph'. This gets back to my section on 'tweaking'.

Thank you Dinasett you for the observation and I will probably amend the tut slightly. Given that I am still very much in GIMP learning mode, something that you might well understand came into my mind from many, many years ago at school 'Discipuli picturam spectate ...'.

By the way, nothing wrong with seeking perfection ... my goal too!

Image After I completed it I thought the frame too busy so moved the layers around until I got a smoother frame look.

I think they look more like a Vodka Cruiser, a kind of Alcopop.

Just had to revisit this thread on GimpChat. Great tutorial to do with lots of information for any of the new Gimpers.

Innovative your outcome, Pat.
It's a "revival" with new ideas.
