After I posted some paisly images in Anmal's 'At last the make a Paisley thread', I was asked how I got the 'depth' in the paisley pattern.

Well here is my method/workflow, almost a tutorial, but it may help some Gimpers!

Nice... but you can also use my shape-path script and my more recent path-splice-strokes to create the paisley:

1) with path-to-shape (or other(*)) three circle paths (here the two small circles are equal but this is not necessary)
2) shift-click on anchors and segment to remove one half of each circles
3) merge paths and apply the path-splice-strokes to make them one single stroke.

(*) as long as you get the anchor points at the right places... path-splice-strokes only splices strokes where the end points are close enough to each other (<0.1 pixel)

I never before realized the pattern perfection of a paisley until I saw the above diagrams!

I got the multi paths but cant see a way to flip paths. Both paths act as one. Using Gimp 2.8.14 on Linux Mint 17.2.

Use the Flip Tool to flip your active path.
