I was asked to provide some guidance on my design methods for some BRL glass/wood images that possess 'topographical' features - that is possess some 3D characteristics based on surface shape and contours.

The intention is to produce an image like this ...

Image

So hopefully this tutorial will fit the bill - its long and certainly not the only way, but should help 'newbies' and 'neophytes' with the process. If you find any errors or omissions, please advise me.

Thank you very much OMG! I won't have time to give it proper attention until after Thanksgiving but then I'll give it all my best efforts!

Thank you again. :paint :tyspin

ImageI did it but I have strange gaps in my selections. I also needed to move the layers around a bit.

Kimba - well done and I did say try different blends and move layers around. :jumpclap

Hopefully the tut does/says all the right things and did not cause your problems, but proof reading it, when I already knew what to expect, was a problem for me.

So anybody whgo finds errors please let me know.

I appreciate and thank your tutorial a lot OMG. I know what a high level you have creating such a great outcome. Thank you so much in spite of the fact my outcome isn't so good as I would have liked, it came something different from yours (sorry). However I've learnt many new steps about paths and that it's important for me. :) :tyspin

I did my second try, OMG. I experimented as you said with layer modes and changed the centre by adding a gem too. :) :tyspin

Following Dinasset's advice I did a new outcome. I used some Erisian's maps. :)

Issabella - very well done and thank you for trying my 'tut'. I did recommend in the document that you should play and try different things, then both outcomes and learning will flow!

My attempt at your very precise and well organized tutorial.

I learned so much from following your instructions, even if I have made mistakes. Besides the use of BRL and paths, I have a deeper understanding of the many other tools such as patterns and their variations, brushes, and other incidentals.

Sorry to be a pest, but I have more questions! This is my second attempt. I thought I had misread some instructions but I could not find out where I may have. I do not have well defined circles around the gems as you and others have. Also, I could not get rid of the color from the xmas bells around the gems, center circle and cross. I even tried fixing with re doing the BRL parts on some after growing or shrinking selections but nothing removed the color. I also added a thin ring around the center and the outside circumference as it looked plain compared to yours.

I thought the colors were all correct but after uploading I noticed the small gems look more pink than orange. Any suggestions?

Pat625- that is a really well done interpretation and I am impressed :jumpclap :jumpclap

I am not on my own machine right now to check the tut instructions for any errors. However, as for the 'xmas bells' pattern showing around the BRL glass objects, the only reason I can put forward is that you have left them as visible layers - they only need to be visible if you use them, say in 'overlay' mode.

I will check the tut instructions and get back to you later.

Lovely work Dalia, you got the little diamonds by turning off the BR Logo copy //6 layer (least ways - that's what happens with mine), happy accidents, bit like butterflies - in Peace
