I was again asked to create a tutorial on an image previously posted in my Glass Ornaments & Effects thread.

Image

So here is a PDF tutorial to create these clear glass brumbies; I have also included a starter.xcf file and the gemclear.png e-map which is used to create glass images using the Bevel Reflect Logo plugin.

Proof reading my own work is an exercise that does not always yield good results, so please let me know of any errors or problems you experience.

Have fuin

Thank you very much, OMG. I can't keep up. I'm working on the glass vase and you are miles ahead!!
I'll start the brumbies as soon as I finish the vase! Love doing this.

I repeated the steps with a different brumby. This time it has a whiter glassy look. I'll practise more times. :) :tyspin OMG

Issabella - thank you for trying out the tut; keep trying as it took me quite a while to figure out the best 'blends' each time for different images.

You do seem to like those 'dramatic' backgounds ;)

Image This the Original.
Image This one has a Drop Shadow.Image And on this one I moved the Drop Shadow layer to the top and changed the blend mode. I also changed the opacity on Ghost and Smoked Drop Shadow layers to 50%. Thanks OMG for a clear and Informative tutorial.

Kimba - thank you for doing the tut and posting all your 'modified' results!

I am also glad that the word 'brumby' has gone global :hehe

Issabella, your Brumby is really beautiful! Your dramatic background really does a wonderful job of showcasing the Brumby.

Kimba, I love your Brumbies. The original ones you did. That's because I'm on such a quest to get that clear glass result! I'm still working on mine. Sometimes that BRL takes hours for just one image. It's over 3 hrs. For this one now. Wish me luck!

Thank you OMG, I'm glad you like my tries. But I need more practice. ;)
Kimba, your brumbies are great in your try. :bigthup
Pat, thank you for your nice words. Waiting for your tries, too. I'm sure they will be fantastic. :bigthup :)

Wow! I finally have my first try of OMG's Brumbies done!! I started out OK, but then had to stop. Next day, nothing would work correctly with Gimp. Worked at it a long time when it finally dawned on me that I had a lot of updates for windows load in the day before. I was told when there are a lot of updates, sometimes problems arise. Our internet server had to give me our router info to load into the computer one time after updates so I could get on the internet. Oh, well. Reloaded Gimp and now all seems fine.

They look great, Pat. I know what you mean about upgrades. I upgraded my Linux Mint and I rebooted and nothing would work right. Took an message to the website to work out my issue. They had moved things around and I needed to change a setting or two.

Thank you Kimba. It is frustrating when you can't get something to work that always has. Now I'll know not to play with it so long before I re download the program or call Windows! Another learning experience.

Pat625 - wow Pat so very well done, I am so pleased for you :) :jumpclap

One thing though Pat, you might just want to go and check where your 'highlights' are, as neither brumby has them showing - they may just be invisible.

As for Windows upgrades the last upgrade on my notebook totally disabled my home network :hoh

Kimba - I also run Linux Mint as my music machine and have never had any Update problems with it.

OMG: You are correct. I cannot see the highlights. Tried to fix. Hope this is better.

I had made the mistake of loading Compiz which was far too heavy for my laptop, OMG, but I couldn't get rid of it without practically reinstalling Linux. When I upgraded they reckoned they had made Compiz easier to change for another window manager. Not quite as easy as I hoped but after being told what settings to change I rebooted and it was gone. :yes

I love this tutorial so much that I just had to do another! Takes me awhile though. This time, since I had two big Siberian Huskies visiting with me this Christmas, I thought I would use images of Huskies.

Pat625 - I'm so impressed by your perseverance, your outcome and I also love large dogs. :) :clap

In fact one of my favourite sayings, probably because we had Borzois, is that "...it is not a real dog if you have to bend down to pat it!"

OMG: I'm honored that you like my Huskies! Thank you. I have always been partial to larger dogs. They are such good companions, helpers, and protectors.

Issabella: Thank you for your comment. Your creations are beautiful and I look forward to them.
