esper: admit it - you deliberately waited with posting a new interesting tutorial until i would be too busy to try it out! :hoh it looks really nice, would be great in a splash screen for a computer game.

Esper,
Very good! And the jagged edges are well attenuated.
Can you get various other results with this technique, changing a few settings.
Thx!

nice result Akros :clap

you are correct, its a pretty simple technique and very versatile
the only drawback is, that its kind of hard to control the final outcome, as colours can change a lot after the colour-curves

I encouraged myself! :rofl
It's really fun to see the many options that are possible, just by changing the modes of the layers.

great tutorial, but mine doesn't look very 'chrome-y". what gradient was used on your first post? I didn't care for what my bevel shadow looked like, it was too harsh, so I blurred the layer mask just a tad.
Image
edit...just realized that I need to color to alpha on the drop shadow, so that whitish color doesn't show.

im not quite sure what you are doing here, 2-ton
but i guess it will look much better if you go for a dark background, because your piece needs contrast to make the colours shine

the gradient you are asking for, is that for the 'Science' text ?

if so, it looked like this before the curve

yes, thanks, hard to believe that gradient ended up the way it did! Curves are pretty amazing.

2-ton would you like to post the xcf, so i can have a look at what you have done ?#

EDIT:
i dont get this at all

in my browser your BG looks all white
when i copy/paste it into my Gimp, suddenly the BG is black

i removed the BG with a colour selection, then applied a chrome curve and instantly got the effect
then smoothed it with the anisotropic filter and bobs yer uncle

I don't think I saved the xcf, but if I did, I'll upload it tomorrow. I'm not on the computer right now.
The chrome tutorial is great!
