I was doing a few frames and thought to explain how I did them. :)
I post the xcf file and a .pdf about it.
I hope you enjoy doing them ;)

Issabella: This is a very nice tutorial. It might be for beginners but I always like a review of the basics, esp. when it comes to multiple layers. You never know what you didn't catch (learn) the first time around or have forgotten. I love colorful frames since I have 2 grandchildren (boys).

That was fun. Very nice, easy-to-follow tutorial with pretty results, Issabella. I couldn't find a border color I liked so didn't make borders. I think if I had an image, I might choose a color from the image for a border.
Here are my results.

Issabella, thank you so much for your tutorial. :clap An old picture of my now grown son - he was 4 years old in this image.

Thank you so much Pat, Oregonian and Dalia. I'm happy you to like my simple tutorial. You are right Oregonian as colours can be chosen from the same pic you are going to set on. Your shapes can be square or in star shape too. Also, once you get the first result you can apply on them more effects as bevel, or beautify etc. :tyspin

Just seen (I was out the whole morning), nice and creative tutorial, Issabella.
I would like only to add a final consideration:
- frames created in such a way, are nice and well applicable to recent photos (your "baby" is an excellent example, Issabella)
- for old photo, it could be useful to add as a final touch-up an overlaying rusted pattern, to let the frame look "older".
I took the freedom to use Dalia's example, to show what I mean.

I retouched with a nuance also the photo, but the example is to show a frame suitable for an old photo (I applied a rusted metal texture on the frame).

If you agree and like it, Issabella, you may add a kind of post-scriptum at the end of your nice tut.

Image I didn't have a picture to hand so I made an art piece instead. I used Multiscale for the frame.
