At last I have completed the final tutorial and it is attached below. It covers the use of the wire/metallic patterns created in Parts 1 and 2 and their transformation in GIMP and GMIC.

As usual it is geared at GIMP neophytes (love that word) and essentially it should foster further exploration of GIMP and GMIC - a longer journey :)

One example of the tut outcomes is shown below but do not let that put you off -

I have tried to proof read the document but if anybody has problems or finds errors, then please let me know and I will fix it.

Inside the ZIP file are a couple of patterns and a font that I use in the tut and they will need to be loaded into GIMP.

EDIT - My sincere apologies Pat has advised that OMG_wire_tile_hexagon_gold wire pattern was not included

It is now included with a couple of others in zip file below

Pat - so sorry; yeterday was a blur of OMG and some Aussie Olympic negative shocks. It looks like our swimmers were not the only ones to be slow off the blocks.

New ZIP file containing the missing pattern plus a couple of others is now in the first post of this thread. My humble apologies for this error.

No problem, OMG. I already did part 3.1. I used the hexagonal wire we made in part one. I had kept the xcf so I could delete the backgrounds if I needed. Trying to figure some things out on my own with the knowledge and examples you have provided. Thanks again.

OMG: Thank you again for taking the time to do these tutorials. I love them!! I've learned so much and I have your instructions I can keep when I try to do something new. I still don't know how you figure out how an odd shaped pattern will turn out after you have mapped it to a sphere. Did you study geometry, or trig? I'm amazed.

Here is my Homework!

On the last one, I started to color in the center piece with gradients, etc., but I really liked the image best with just the center piece alone. I just made it a little brighter and more bold with extra layers and blend modes.

Bob, I like the coloring and type of wireframe for your GIMP Chat. Very nice.

Bob Albion - That is excellent Bob and its good to see your Baggies got off to a winning start at Palace yesterday.

Pat625 - thank you for that. I hope you continue the GMIC filters journey - here are some more to whet your appetite and they are all made from those wire patterns, using various GMIC filters .
