Yeah there are a million ways to do things in Gimp. :)
This one came from DavidWoodFX.
I was basically just seeing what i could do with Wink as compared to FastStones video capture.I like Wink better because you can add the little notes in there. I think once i get a few templates set up i will be good to go.

And it's freeware.

Nice tutorial Rod. For some reason, the tutorial caused the background to be golden instead of my text.

Later: Aha, didn't see to uncheck the white areas. Need to go back and work with this some more.

Image

I didn't save it to a channel though. What purpose does that serve?

I must say that also your first version with golden BG and white & carved gimp letters was quite cool

Lianam - It is so hard to find software for Mac that runs on Linux and Windows it seems.

PC - This software is much more simpler to use than most presentation software is.
You create the movie then you edit each frame or delete it whatever looks better to you in the preview before rendering the flash file.It also will render PDF, HTML, SWF stand alone projection executables, and regular SWF files.

O - I didn't follow Davids exact tutorial. In his you need to create a black background and paint white on that same layer.I wanted to do just text type.It worked so maybe you do not need the channel the way i did it?
try just creating a white background - type out white text and merge it down into the black layer - change mode to grayscale - duplicate the channel after removing the alpha channel and run the stencil chrome filter.
See if you need the mask then.
Good catch either way, thanks.

There is a filter in File > Create > Logos > SOTA Chrome... that does a very similar thing. Just delete the top layer for the gold text and frame.

Remember though with the create new "SOTA Chrome" you can not use the paths tool on the text before render - its all set to run and create your text and gold or chrome effect.
With this way i think you have more ways to manipulate your text font- such as turn it into a path and really make it custom. :)

Many ways to skin a cat. Used Rob's texture and few other things (including G'MIC's Tone Map filter) for this one. :)

Use the Crop tool to crop inside the frame, 2-ton.
