Regular Gimp Chatters know I am obsessed with mandalas. Erisian's original thread was based on using Symmetry Painting, which originally did not work for custom brushes. Now it does so here is a demo tutorial in which I create a custom brush using Ofnuts 'path inbetweener' plug-in and then a quick mandala using that brush.

PDF file tut is attached below along with a resources file including a starter xcf file with the layers and paths, the Ofnuts plug-in and the 'fade to fade' brush dynamic, the last two of which need to be unzipped and placed into your GiMP profiles.

Here is an image similar to that produced by the demo tutorial.

OMG :wvy

In my Gimp 2.10.14, I had put the ofn-path-inbetweener plugin (I think it's the last one, 10 KB) and yours is 8 KB.
I kept that of 10 KB but in step 5, I have an additional "output path" setting:
edit:
finally I put your plugin in. I'm going to start again :)

Thanks for the tutorial, oldmangrupy.
I'm still learning new things in Gimp that I didn't know existed, symmetry painting for instance.

Appreciate the tutorial OMG....as I am a newbie with paths, I was so happy to get a result, even though to me it looks more like a doily... :hehe ...

Great work everyone, some spectacular designs...

Thanks to all respondents for your kind words.

Issabella and Ella Louise have highlighted in their submissions, something I forgot to point out and that is highlighting the finished mandala with additional effects, such as colour and texture. So I have posted a new one below, created as per the tutorial technique and which was originally the off white d8d8d8 colour as used in my tut, but to which I have applied a gradient, some GMIC filters and zoom blur to complete the image.

Very clear tutorial OMG, thank you :tyspin. I didn't have the the 'fade to fade' brush dynamic so that's very useful (and the first new dynamic I've ever installed apart from making my own).

Thank you for the zoom blur tip, I will be using that again.

As level_0 mentioned there is a newer version of ofn-path-inbetweener available on Ofnuts' Gimp path tools sourceforge:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-p ... s/scripts/

Lovely results from everyone :jumpclap

Here is my try:

I have not yet tried with a thick texture like the last image of OMG.

FlutteringBy - the Fade to Fade dynamic is contained in the Resources ZIP file in post #1
