Ran across this site while checking out links to Gimp Chat. Looks like a pretty good list.

Text effect heaven! Some of those I've seen, some I haven't, will be fun to look around. Thanks for the post!

I like that one too Rod. It is something like the 3Dfont you used in your animated sig a while back

I am trying to do the Techno tute, but having problems with the newsprint script, nothing happens, I have tried it every way I can think of. selecting, not selecting, lock transparency, nothing works.

I think you probably made the same mistake I did when I tried it Molly. You have to merge that black blurred layer down to a white layer before it will work.

That is a sweet effect! :)
I know some of the tutorials are not quite in English so they could be hard to follow.
Some things having to do with the logo tutorial i had to guess a bit.

Here is my stab at the halftone.
Image

Note: On this tute, Retro halftone text in GIMP,
When you get to the part (Change the image mode to grayscale (Image > Mode > Grayscale), merge the layer you are working on to the white layer below, Then go to Filters > Distorts > Newsprint. Newsprint won't work unless it is merged into a white layer)
