This is a nice little script made by Fencepost for those who are interested. I made this image below with it.

Open up a new transparent image...I used the default (640x400).
Type in your text using black foreground color.
filters > alpha to logo > Lord Of The Rings (I used dimpled setting)
I used 342772 color on the first one. then clicked OK.
Voila! your new Lord Of the Rings text.

The second one I changed the color to (# 3a596f) and used the Angular setting.
You can experiment with the settings yourself, there are no set rules on that.

On third one I changed the color to 5d2532 and used the Spherical setting

Well, I was able to recover my old tutorial images for this, and many others, but the LOTR written steps appear are gone forever. I want to thank Molly for her diligence over the years in trying to post my tutorials/scripts here in an effort to keep them alive. Unfortunately, I didn't back up all of my files and she wasn't able to get this one posted here before it disappeared. You're a gem, Molly, and I appreciate your efforts. Not sure what health/salary benefits for being a GIMPchat moderator are, but management should consider doubling it for your great work!

Honestly don't know if the images will be of any use to anyone since GIMP has changed, but I told her I would rewrite the steps if she felt they would be beneficial. However, Odinbc's link to the other tutorial probably takes care of that anyway. Thanks for the link Odin.

I'm also providing Molly with links to all my other tutorial images in case there are any tutorials y'all would like posted here. The ones I'm really interested in having are my scripting ones....I can't remember how to write a script!!! LOL GIMPtalk has the steps, but not the images....I have the images, but not the text. Sounds like we have a match.

I asked you then if it was all right for me to post some of your tutorials here on GC and you said yes you would be honoured. Well, I am glad you are back and I am humbled by your post.

Not many folks around here like tutorials within spoiler tags Molly.
A spoiler tag is mainly for adding punchlines for jokes and spoilers for movie and television show endings and stories. Not sure why that tag is even allowed in this forum really. Last time i used it here to hide a tutorial, i got bushwhacked by a few members.

I just liked it cuz it can save so much room. Do spoilers take up the same amount of bandwidth when they are closed?

I like seeing the examples in the different 'metal' colors! It gives a great perspective on colorizing results.

I agree...

thats really just playing around with the sliders and not ideal if you have a very specific colour in mind

alternatively you could create a new layer in a colour you like and set the Mode to 'Colour' (or any other suitable Mode ('Hard Light' in the second example))
that has the advantage that you can play around with the Opacity and fine tune your result
