I guess you could do it with or without unchecking that, they both look the same to me.

OK, just tried this and mine looks wrong. I'm trying to upload it but the upload is not doing anything. I think I am not sure exactly how to do the feather at 400 px part (I know how to feather the selection but a 400 px feather on a 600 px selection?), but if I can ever get GC to upload it you can see how odd the center looks and maybe see where I went wrong!

K, as often happens, the upload finally went through, unbeknownst to me, and I tried to upload it again and it tells me that it's already there...so I luckily had written my "number" down and can manually put in the url, argh.

Once you make your ellipse, you will have a selection, then go to select > feather and take out what is there and put in 400 pixels, then Ok, then edit > fill with white > select none

yes, that is what I did, but mine looks all wrong.
OH wait, after I filled in the 400 for the feather, I did bucket fill with the white, I did not go edit, fill.

***that was it, much better now. I never realized that the edit/fill was different than bucket fill!

Nice Tut Molly, simple ,yet effective.
I went a step further to show that more can be done with the concept of the SunBurst
The opposing drop shadows are done by splitting the text and making the drop shadows above and below appear to be away from the centre of the sun.

Just a little hit of what I do 2-ton.
I never use the bucket fill. I just drag the color into the selection, or if I am using a pattern, I drag it from the patterns dialogue into the selection. Faster and less clicks.
