Nice work. You might want to look through some of Draconian's tutorials - the Master of metal.

Thanks for the kind words Molly and Erisian. It's always helpful to hear some feed back. Erisian, you are so right about Draconian's tutorials - the Master of metal.

Molly you were looking for the "Fairy Dust" font and found it. I would like to know how you got the effect on the text after you found it.

Good job Brazos 42, and thanks to everyone for the all the "Metal Meister" praise.

I can't remember who posted it but I had it bookmarked anyhoo. This is one of the best gear tuts I've seen around -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njkVfvut ... e=youtu.be

Another excellent one is the one Rod posted a couple of months ago -

@ Molly, I would like to know how you did the effect on the image I attached to my last reply.

@ Draconian, I'm checking out those tutorials you suggested. I believe you know about installing python or have info on that. Can you share a link about that with me?

Sorry Brazos42,
I have no idea how I did that except I used a satin background, but for the text, it has been so long. I might have used the filters > distort > bevel for the M and the same for the olly.
I will try to recreate it cuz I am not sure.

To install Python, there is a great text tutorial in the tutorial section by Rod. It was very easy for me to follow so should be easier for you

I know I used the bevel filter, but I forget what I used next, except I did a little colors > curves

That's a beautiful font. I've installed it myself now.

You may be able to get that effect with the Chisel Script also which doesn't require python. Created by Rob A. :) :ninja

I was fooling around with Mollys text and here's what I came up with. the first one is text layer duplicated, blur the dup about 20, bumped the original at 65 and uncheck compensate for darkening.
Turnoff the blur layer. Did this on two text layers as Molly described, then did a glossy stroke on both bumped layers, set to fill at 10 for the 3D amount and the color set to white, then deleted the stoke layers.

For the glass one, I duped the bump layer, alpha to selection, shrink by 2 and hit delete to sort of cut out the middle and make an outline. Blured the outline layer by 5 then alpha selected the bumped layer, Inverted the selection, re-selected the outline layer and hit delete. I set the duped layer (outline) Opacity to 50% and the bumped text layer to about 20%.

Little different, but the results ain't half bad.

...and after all the kind words, I could't help myself......I had to do one in gold and bronze.

Thanks. I'm kinda partial to the galss one as well, and I like the "dust" behind the text on yours.

Sorry Brazos 42, didn't mean to hi-jack your gear tut thread. Just wanted to expand on the text "how to" part you asked Molly about.

This is great. Got some feed back on all I inquired about. Thought of some good ideas to try from the efforts of everyone. Our imagination is truly the only limit to what can be done with Gimp.
