A filter created by Ofnuts allows you to take a circle - create a gear path from it.
Download it here - http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-pa ... y/download
Place it in your plug-ins folder
Open Gimp and create a perfect circle 200x200 or whatever size you want.
Go to selection> to Path - then Select>None
Open the paths dialog Windows>dockable dialogs>Paths
Right click the path you just created, and select Decorative>Periodic Wave>Circle

Then run the script with these settings

And there you go a perfect gear shape with paths. :)

I believe the 0.2 is the newest version so yes most likely. :)

And for something back on track, as usual a great script from Ofnuts

Yet another thing I couldn't get to work. After reading a tutorial on Gimptalk, I made some gears using Gfig to make the the shapes (thanks to a suggestion from Lyle). Anyway, I think some scripts do too much of the work. I like going through the process.

Yeah, when I went back to close the Gimptalk page I noticed the name and "sig" of the author. Thanks for that tutorial. I started with making gears and ended up making all kinds of patterns and textures. I wish I could find the files right now.

Edit: I did find one of the files. I went a lot farther than this but still have no idea where I put them. Anyway, I'm taking this off topic, sorry.

Nice gear tut:) I remember seeing one for Inkscape and thinking, "I need to install Inkscape soon" (which I still haven't done). Maybe I can hold off a little longer ;)
