Usually use wacky techniques to create the lego cutout patterns, but, I rediscovered G'MIC's Old School 8-bit preset and it did a good job at it which got me back to thinking legos again. :)

I see that Patrick no longer has the original Lego tutorial up on his webpage. Fortunately, there is a cached version on archive.org for those interested in following the original old school method.

Lot's of cool software out there to build these Rod. Have to understand that I'm lazy and prefer to just convert pictures to legos, but you are very limited doing this I know. :)

That's the tut alright (and where I also got the dimples as I recall); you now need to get rid of the seam ends of the stud since that's what the program now does. :)

I like how you can turn the table to see it 3D. :)
Still trying to figure out how to flip and rotate the lego pieces though.

Yeah that is pretty cool. I didn't create this tank image. I downloaded a Lego Digital Designer LXF Model File (.lxf) and opened it in LDD.
I got the LXF file from here at this Share your LEGO site... http://mocpages.com/

BTW... Made this recently in Gimp.

Hmmm, maybe i will try these out in the new Trace Pixels filter in Inkscape -0.91. Turn them to color vector , enlarge them, and create a PHF? Or do you have a larger image of them?

Sorry Rod, but that's the largest image I have. I made them for a friend and he needed that size.

Sorry Rod; though pixel trace did a lot better job then the old potrace method (won't even bother sharing that result), it's still a no-go. lol
