I found this script a little difficult to use at first so I thought a tutorial would be useful.

1. Create your brush on a square background. H and V dimensions must be equal for the script to run.
2. If you want to be able to choose colour, ensure your image mode is set to Grayscale and the image is flattened.
3. Run the script.
4. Save the resulting image as (name).GIH
5. Choose your preferences as below. I chose 20 rotations so this is how I filled in my preferences.

This shows four random rotations that the brush gives.

With colour, jitter and reduced opacity.

Feel free to download my brush if you have a use for it.

Thanks for all the info. I have gone through it and found it to be most helpful. Exporting as an (Animated) .gih gimp brush is exaclty what I was looking for.

Thanks again, Alan

Nice! Much easier to understand through this tut than a few others I have seen. Also the other settings can be used for some pretty awesome brushes!

Thanks for the quick tutorial.

In the post at the GPR it does state:
Quote:
It will work with any shape image, but it only rotates a circle, so try to keep the image inside

and
Quote:
To make a Colour brush, start with a RGB image with transparency, and check the option in the make brush dialog. For a normal brush, make it a greyscale image with no alpha. White will end up transparent, and greys will end up partially transparent.

(but this is part way down the page and might get missed when setting it up in the first place.)

And if using multiple image, the start shape will have to be multiples of a square shape.

Also, If you use gimp 2.7 and up the script is unnecessary, as directional angular dynamics are supported.

This was the first plugin I ever installed and it's a peach:)

@Alan: Check out Rob's original write up on it at http://registry.gimp.org/node/583 once you got the basic idea of it for some neat tricks!

EDIT: Oops, forgot to say thanks Rob!

I had not known about the rotating brush or even saving brushes in general before now. But since I installed the 2.8 I figure I will just use the Track Direction Dynamic for rotating. Unless the rotating images script comes out with better results. I'll try the script and see how it works.

Bonjour,

My answer may be off topic but it concerns the creation of rotating brushes.

There is a plug-in in Python available from this link :
http://www.graphie.org/ressources/gimp/ ... _brush.zip

Tutorial in French:
http://www.gimp-attitude.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4867

Translation

This tutorial is old, it is no longer necessary to install Python.

Personally I didn't find it obvious how to use this script until I had played around with it a bit. Usually scripts are self explanatory so I never look for instructions. As a result of this, I didn't realise instructions were available. Pegleg, you would probably be better off using 2.8's dynamics. Thank you everybody for the info.
