i don't know how familiar you are with swedish painter carl larsson. he was active between the late 19th and early 20th century and he is best known for the (sometimes sickeningly!) idyllic watercolours he painted of his family and home. i took a nice photo of my goddaughter and as a gift for her mum i placed little j in a carl larsson painting, with some hours of experimenting in gimp to make her blend in with the painting. it turned out so well i did some more and i thought i'd write a tutorial for anyone else who would like to try it. the attached image is an example i made especially for the tutorial, since the other pictures were of my goddaughter and her brother and i've solemnly promised their mother never to publish pictures of them on the web. the tutorial (much like everything i write  ) is a bit on the lengthy side, so i attach a zip file with it.

Very nice.I love this effect. It reminds me of the old style color technique in school books we used to read.
Thanks for sharing this with us. :)

Carl Larsson is one of the biggest and most famous scandinavian painters from late 19th century. Fun idea for a tutorial!

This was a true master. His self-portrait (from wikipedia) (this is water colour!) :

thanks everyone for commenting, please let me see the results if you try it! rod: yep, there's more than a touch of nostalgia in this :). griatch: hey fellow countryman, nice to see you here! that self-portrait also features my favourite among carl larsson's kids - i think she must have been a bit of a favourite with her daddy because every painting he made of her is something special. btw, just to brag a bit, i actually met brita's daughter when i was a kid. barbie: well, carl larsson can't be blamed for those words - it's one of my personal deep insights i life, hehe.

oh, and please if you look at the pdf let me know if it looks ok!
