Wondered which of the tutorials I have done I would post next, then reading through this thread
http://www.gimpchat.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=2926

Decided that this one might be a good choice.

Tileable Abstract Patterns part 1
Tileable Abstract Patterns part 2

Just as an example all the patterns below where created initially by using the steps described in the tutorial some did have a bit more tweaking.

Nice Patterns.

I did these using one of my metallic gradients and got these results.

someday, when all our homes have programmable walls, GIMP users will have the coolest, most psychedelic wallpapers

I'd go insane living somewhere that is wallpapered like that Esper.

You've done some lovely patterns there he4rty. I like your metallic ones too Drac.

Wallpaper is so 80's. I think it will probably be more like liquid crystal or holographic imaging arrays to produce similar designs but remain fluid and interactive. Did that make any sense?

(Note to self...stop smoking the wallpaper)

What I really like about stuff like this is that it teaches us different ways to use the different filters and tools in GIMP. Thank you!

Reminds me of when we were trying to make quilts in GIMP. Very nice, he4rty.

this was just as fun as it looked! i didn't follow the original procedure very long, though, i just had to try what happened if i altered this or that. so my first pattern is what happened when i blended from three points instead of eight, making a triangular pattern, then following the tutorial until "map - make seamless" (i tried that step but it destroyed my triangle), which i replaced with "map - small tiles". the second pattern is what happened when i pinched the first. inspiring tutorials, he4rty!

I didn't follow the tutorial but Gimp's coffee stain filter came in useful for something.

Erisian that is a very creepy image, it needs a semi transparent floating skull in it somewhere.

Shows how different peoples perceptions are. I wouldn't have thought of it as creepy myself. :)

he4rty: thank ya :) . i used my own gradient, made with the palette-to-gradient tool. i'll post it if you like, but you'll probably make it yourself much quicker.

erisian: that's a very creative use of something that i've always thought of as pretty useless- hmm... creepy yes, but not in the floating skulls-sense, more in the creepy-crawlies-hiding-in-the-corners-sense. i think some of photo comix cockroaches could live happily in that pattern, brrr.

Just one of those days of wanting to play on gimp but no idea what to create, so abstract patterns come in handy.
