I write an Inkscape tutorial about sewed text...so i made the same for GIMP.
It is easy so i think beginners will re-make it without problems.
This is what you learn:

Get the short PDF from Deviantart:

Hope to see your outcome.

I hope this is not highjacking the thread, but would you please post a link to the Inkscape tutorial on this effect.

Chris, Is there any way to make this pdf less blurry. I can see all the text but the images are very blurry.

Yeah great results! I`m happy to see it!

Molly, i post here the original file again.
The screenshots are partially very big. The file was exported in 90dpi for screen reading only.
I have no problems to read, on both machines: win and linux. :puzzled

this is so cool, i will definitely try it! i already had the inkscape version bookmarked but i haven't got round to it yet, all my inkscape time is eaten by a troublesome knotwork path that needs lots of editing.

I want to post some advanced examples. This technique is not only for text effects,
you can do a lot of designs on different materials.
Extern example for webdesign: http://www.premiumpixels.com/freebies/s ... accordion/

he4rty and molly: nice job on those!

my result is just as predictable as always :hehe ...

actually looks a lot like something i would have sewn in the late eighties or early nineties. i had a denim skirt with paisley and suede appliquées on the sides. those were the days!
