Moko expressed a desire to paint better noses so I created this PDF for anybody who has a use for it.

I followed your directions the best I could but also added a bit of my own stuff in there...For a first attempt I think it's okay, could always be improved but you know...! xD
I only did the front-view nose since I wanted to focus better.

Erisan - Thanks for the tut, Really fancy having a go at this but could somebody point me in the right direction concerning the brush set up.

So I had a go, first time in years I've actually tried drawing anthing, so not to bad although lots of room for improvement.

he4rty: that looks a lot like erisian's style on noses :). great job, especially as you say you haven't painted anything in years.

i had to try it of course. here's my "nose job", as he4rty put it:
Image

the flaws: the left side of the nose is too undefined. i'd say it looks ... well, ambiguous. the curving on the top isn't correct, the two curves are completely dissimilar. also the bridge of the nose on the right side looks too sharp at the top. but it was a good lesson and great practice for me.

I haven't done that view yet AnMal! I like your result!

@He4rty:

I turn the opacity down on the fuzzy brush and use multiply layer mode, and make depth that way, other wise I'll use double the layers. :hehe

Thank you everybody - it's nice to see the results too.

Moko - a really good start and definitely 3D. Painting with a mouse isn't easy either.

he4rty - you've got the idea but use a fuzzy brush. I should have mentioned this. Also use brushes that are slightly larger than you would expect. You can use the eraser and smudge brush to fine tune the shapes if you like.

AnMal - that's an excellent nose - you've done this before haven't you.

mokonafan: thank you! to be honest i took the easy way out when i tried that angle, because i know i'm better at that than at painting noses i front view.
erisian: thank you:)! but what kind of a teacher are you if you let me get away with obvious mistakes? you're supposed to say stuff like: "you got the lines under the nose all wrong! they're not placed correctly and the angle isn't right either" and "the left side of the nose is a real mess, it needs more definition and you should decide once and for all where the nose ends!"
(and i've never painted noses in this way before, i'm used to throwing in shadows and highlights in a much less systematical way, so the tutorial really was a good lesson for me!)
