I just posted a "review" of MyPaint for those who wanna use a mouse, it kinda drifted from a review and in to an overview but it might still be worth a read to those who want at least an overview of MyPaint.

Link

I hope somebody enjoys it.

It'd be interesting to see an art program optimized for mouse work. If you could map the scroll wheel to opacity, that might make things a bit easier.

Those are called vector graphics applications. You can try with Gimp and Inkscape. I'm completely serious.

And Mokonafan, your overview should definitely mention, that MyPaint has canvas rotation. Definitely big help, for mouse as well as tablet users. Also, I imagine delayed brushes would work quite well with mouse (cleaner lines etc.).

All in all, I liked the overview.

This is possible in Gimp 2.8.
1.16. Input Controllers
Example, Creating a variable size brush
Tip: In the Select Controller Event Action dialog use search.

In your case, try pressing shift and middle mouse button (in my mouse I 'click' mouse wheel) and drag. F12 resets all (rotation, center).

I tried it and it didn't work, then I did shift right click and it did work...o.o
Thank you, I'll add that in the other section.

Thankyou again for the links Mokonafan. The setup looks relatively simple. I have started a simple picture in it thinking I could probably try one in Gimp later. Problem is I changed the view to 'larger' and I cannot move the picture up and down so cannot go ahead with it now. I'm stuck. How do I do that?

SallyAnne, For now you can go to MyPaint> view > zoom out but I have the same problem too for zooming in and out. It is on the upper left corner.

Here is another little bit of info for working around your canvas.
The border of the screen is not the end. The canvas of MyPaint grows as you expand your painting, only the memory of your computer sets a limit. Pan around your painting area using the Middle mouse button (MMB) or by holding the Space bar down. You can zoom in and out using the + and - keys.

A common thing for painters to do is to look at their painting from different angles (this is a time-honoured technique for finding flaws in anatomical drawings and portraits for example). MyPaint allows you to rotate your view of the painting as well as mirror it to either side (see the View menu). If you get lost, use Reset (Zoom, Rotation, Mirror) from the View menu.

One thing to remember is that these commands allows you to view your canvas differently but they do not modify the painting itself. So if you e.g. save a rotated picture it will still appear un-rotated when you load it later. If you want to actually rotate, mirror or enlarge your painting, use GIMP.
