I covered lips briefly in my face tutorials but I thought I would do something slightly more in depth.

What no hot pink lipstick?
I thought that was the bomb these days.

rod: hehe, hot pink lipstick is, always was and always will be the bomb! i saw it on debbie harry in a blondie video when i was a little kid and i think it affected me for life.

Very nice tutorial, Erisian. :bigthup

I find the explanation of the technique as clear and precise as in the previous chapters that I have already downloaded.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for another great tutorial. I can't say my results reflect the quality of the tutorial, but this was what I managed to come up with.

wow, nice job jas.
I won't even post mine cus it is terrible, even beyond terrible. I didn't know how far to turn down the opacity and I guess not enought looking what I ended up with.

Thanks Molly.

In my short experience with Gimp, it seems to me that opacity is one of the more misleading choices you have to make. I've often changed it to look good to me while I am working, then when I have a fresh look after some time away from the image, realize that I should have gone lower. I am slowly coming to the realization that if opacity looks "just right" when you are working, it's probably still too much.

jas45: that is just to impressive! great result this time too, you obviously learn quickly :).

here's my try - i have a real problem with mouths in general and need lots more practice, but once again i had fun following erisian's tutorial and learned a lot. i can't blame the tutorial for the problems i had with perspective and shape, especially since i chose to paint them in a different aspect.
i made one normal set and one with both lipstick and shiny gloss - and guess what colour? :hehe

Thank you everybody for your comments. There are some really good results here. On the question of opacity, I always find it best to lower it to 0 then bring it up a bit until it looks about right. Remember you are working from middle value outwards so early shadow and light doesn't have to be strong.

AnMal - I love the texture in your top lip.
Jas45 - Excellent work. You do learn fast.
Molly - You're getting the hang of shape and shading really well. You could do with a touch more pink though.

molly: thanks :). looks like you're getting on fine with your lips, the shading looks really good.

erisian: thank you. but you like the wrong thing as usual - the bottom one is better. :hehe you're a great teacher, coffee man!

My last go. With all my probs, it is kinda
frustrating to make something come out decent but I am determined to get it fixed.
BTW, instead of picking a color, I just typed in Coral instead of the 6 digits and came up with this color.
