had a look at my old records from the 90ies and there was this metallic logo, obviously made with a bumpmap
so i had to give it a try

pretty cool what you can achieve with some simple bumpmapping, chrome curves and lighting effects on top

i found it all pretty obvious, but here you go:

Esper let's agree to disagree! ;)

I found nothing obvious, and even had a hard time completing the tutorial.
In a moment, could not complete step 10 - "then rotate the text-path and ..."
Could not rotate at all. But so much poke around and insist I got! :yes

Also I did not understand what "the 50ies with gray" (50ies? Nor google helped me with that. But I used a gray 127,127,127 and went ahead.

My Blur filter had a bug :( , and I had to use the gaussian blur via Tools - GEGL Operations. Later when I needed to use Motion Blur and adjust the angle needed, so this was no good, there isn't the option angle available via GEGL .

I had to save to xcf and hope to work after reopening the Gimp. Worked.

But the tutorial is perfect, and gradually went running one step after another.

Now that I finished, and I have a vision of the whole process, I'll redo it again until decorating it! :hehe :clap

Thx very much! :tyspin

just a quick explanation before i go to bed

50ies grey is when you select your colour
between black and white, there is 50 grey (#808080)

Image

also putting text on a path is something i do not show in detail, because there are already lots of good tutorials on youtube and here on GC for that

Esper

I did not know it 50ies, but I had the right intuition.
Putting text on a path was very simple, so I could do. My difficulty was rotate it later! :troll

The tutorial is perfect, if it were more detailed would be tiring, at least for those who are not familiar with the English language, as is my case.
And if I could run it, then anyone can also. :owink
Speaking of going to bed ... what am I doing still awake at this hour?
Good Night! :otb :zzz

esper: nice looking effect! reminds me of those gold paisleys i made once in pretty much the same way - i didn't use the bump map filter but the emboss filter but it's pretty much the same, i think the real trick is getting the right contrasts for the effect you want.

Esper this is weird, I checked the link before posting ...
I think you need to click on the link - Continue to the media
But here's what I got on my first try.
(As first time until I liked, but maybe if there was more contrast would be better)

finally got to try this...I know I did not do well with the lighting but I got a lot of practice with channels and text to path, and got to try the new pattern from Molly, I think it was? I would like to know how to make it look more engraved, I tried all sorts of bump settings, and I did find one that made it look engraved, but kept playing and could never re-create that look, lol.
