How to Paint and eye (iris) using MyPaint and GIMP.
I think you could do all the steps in GIMP just ignore the special brushes and do it in GIMP purely.

This is my style not a specific style like "Anime" or "Realism" I do this or variations of this with all my types of drawings.

I was a bit distracted and I had to kinda "tape" this back together since the original document wasn't working right I had to paste this back together in a new document! So if something is confusing feel free to ask.

Some colors the overlay doesn't work, like Cyan and Standard Red but this is how I normally do it!

i finally got round to doing this - very nice tut, moko! i had my problems, but they had nothing to do with the instructions. it was a bit tricky trying to do the same thing in gimp as you do in mypaint, to begin with, and then i had my stubborn mind to fight with in the last step. the last step was adding the shine (reflexes) to the iris and i just couldn't do it the way the instructions say! i know it looks great in your example and it looks great in your pictures, moko, but when i tried to add the blurred circles i just felt it was all wrong! i ended up having to do one AnMal shine version (top) and one moko shine version (bottom) - and of course i liked the moko shine version best in the end.
i spent little or no time on the actual eye, but i'm very happy with the depth i got in the iris using this tut.

You did a more than fine job of the iris AnMal. very good job on the shine too. Just need to play around with the creases, eyelid etc., but that will come.

A very nice iris! And extra good for just using GIMP! -I like both versions;The shines can be however you want it's just how I do it! It's your eye. xD

I think using a vegetation brush might be a good alternative for the MyPaint watercolor brush.

molly: thank you! but no, it won't come - i only wanted the eye as a sort of frame in this, so i didn't bother about any details.
mokonafan: you wrote a very good tutorial and i learned a lot from it, so thank you, sister ! i did try a few vegetation brushes actually - in the end i thought the "smudge cheese" did a better job. (smudge cheese! what a horrible name, i hope i'm never served one of those to my bread!)
2-ton: that's nice to hear ! means i'm not all wrong with my shine preferences, then.
