Gino's Multi Replicate Effects filterworks really great for unique sharp 3D effects if set properly. Here is one way and i also attached the GIMP workspace file (XCF).
First download the SCM file and place in your "Scripts" directory.
1) Open GIMP or if GIMP is already opened go to Filters>Script-Fu>Refresh Scripts.and create a new document File>New - 640x400, white bg color
2) Go ahead and create your text layer using the text tool in the GIMP toolbox :text
3) Right click the new text layer and select the option "Layer to Image Size"
4) Making sure the text layer is still selected go to Edit>Multi-Replicate to open the filter.
5) Put in these settings (image example)

Image
Select OK and let the filter run.
6)The filter will place all layers into a group folder for you. select the TOP layer in the group and right click it and select the option "Alpha To Selection".
7) Open the fg color selector dialog by clicking it in the toolbox :fg2bg
8) Select any color other than white.
9) Go to Edit>Fill with FG Color

Just a rough example of the final result. You could also use pattern or gradient fills and add a shadow or lighting effects. have fun! :) :bigthup

Thanks for checking out the tutorial.

Thanks everyone. It needs some smoothing but you can get very nice 3D effects from this filter. Thank you Gino. :)
