Works great on some images, not so great on others. Not sure how closely related this tutorial is to a script I downloaded a couple of years ago (I'd need to open the script and check).

In some ways, it closely resembles a "Dave Hill" tutorial mentioned on G'MIC Flickr.

On the Gimpknowhow channel on YouTube here, that young man took a text tutorial for faking HDR he found on Gimpology by jneurock here and turned it into a video. The specific video is here.

On an unrelated note, if you listen to GimpKnowHow's video tutorials from oldest to newest you will get to hear his voice change. :)
